What to plan for

  1. 1

    Plan for the walk

Dulles is a large, spread-out airport. The distance from gate to baggage claim, and then to the curb, can be considerable, so the pickup is timed with that in mind.

  2. 2

    International arrivals

Immigration and customs clearance varies from day to day. We watch the flight and set the wait accordingly, and we state the wait-time terms in writing.

  3. 3

Beltway and toll road at peak

Weekday rush hour on the Dulles Toll Road and I-495 can add substantial time to a trip to or from Tysons and the city. Pickups are timed to the traffic you will actually meet.

How a IAD pickup works

  1. 1

    Send your flight details

Airline, flight number and whether you are arriving or departing. If you do not have them yet, send the request anyway and add them later.

  2. 2

    Receive a written confirmation

We confirm the vehicle, the total and how you will meet your chauffeur. Meeting options depend on airport rules, so we agree the arrangement in advance.

  3. 3

    On the day

Your flight number lets us plan around the scheduled time and published changes. Your confirmation tells you who to call on the day, so you can get in touch when you land.

  4. 4

    Meet and go

Your chauffeur helps with luggage and takes you to the address on your confirmation.

Who we plan IAD transfers for

Executives and delegations

Dulles is a long way from downtown, so the outbound leg is planned backwards from the flight with generous margin. Executives travelling from Tysons, Reston or Leesburg often prefer one vehicle for the whole trip, with the chauffeur watching the flight status.

Families and groups

After a long international flight, a group of four to six with strollers and car seats does better with one larger vehicle than two cars. Tell us the ages of children and any seating you will bring, so the right vehicle is confirmed in writing.

Luggage

International itineraries tend to mean larger and more bags. List the number of suitcases and anything oversized in your request so we confirm a vehicle class that fits; we do not guess luggage capacity.

Hotel and residence transfers

Arrivals into Loudoun, Fairfax or the District are common. Give us the hotel name or residence address, and tell us whether a building needs a gate code or concierge call on arrival.

What to tell us

  • Airline and flight number
  • Arrival or departure, and the address at the other end
  • Passengers and bags
  • Any child seats, accessibility needs or name-sign meeting

Questions

How far is Dulles from downtown Washington?

Roughly 26 miles. The drive time depends heavily on the time of day, which is why we set pickup times against expected traffic.

Where does the chauffeur meet arriving passengers?

The meeting point is agreed before travel day: curbside, baggage claim or another agreed location. You receive the detail with your confirmation.
